Genting Highlands

Located about 35 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur was an exciting attraction to my brother and I called Genting Highlands. It’s a resort on the peak of a mountain that comprises of hotels, casinos and best of all: a theme park.

The only negative part about it was the trip up a mountain which had to be done using cable cars. Since I have a fear of heights, I begged my mum to let us take the hotel cars but she claimed that we would miss all the wondrous views and that the cars are too expensive so, I finally complied. I just read a book and tried my very best not to look outside the window of the cable car until we reached the top of the mountain.

The entire day was spent enjoying all the rides such as the flying roller coaster, flume ride and many more thrilling attractions. In the evening, my family and I walked to the mall to have dinner consisting of my favourite dish, nasi goreng,  before leaving the mountain to go back to the hotel. Thankfully, it started raining on the way to the cable cars so that motivated my mum to decide to take a car back down to the bus station where our hotel shuttle bus was waiting.

Sunway Lagoon & Chinatown

The next day, we woke up early and took the hotel shuttle bus to Sunway Pyramid to visit the famous waterpark; Sunway Lagoon. We only got to enjoy about two hours of the theme park before it started raining and we had to leave. We were not amused.

We changed out of our swimsuits and roamed around the Sunway Shopping Mall. “I didn’t realize how homesick I was until I saw that lady”, my brother said and pointed at a lady in an abaya. Only then did we realize that the whole mall was filled with Arabs; it was like being back in the UAE.

Once the rain cleared up, we went back to the hotel where we rested until the evening when we decided to visit the most talked-about attraction: Chinatown. It was everything you’ve seen in the movies; I kid you not, there was a stall with someone selling insects on a stick.

We did quite a fair bit of shopping; the goods over there were so hard to resist and you just had to have everything. In the last shop we entered, we found a toy wooden snake and we decided to be cheeky and scare my mum with it. Let’s just say, my brother and I were both sporting lovely hand prints on our foreheads for catching her off guard but I can’t say we regretted it because her reaction was priceless.
